The Guest
Hence, she came to Manila on Tuesday morning. Roney picked her up and was able to make good conversation on the way home.
When they reached the house, I showed her her room and told her to rest or eat breakfast. After putting her things in her room, she went to me in the kitchen. I was cleaning the dishes so i told her to eat while i finish my task, but she said she wasn't hungry and just sat on a chair.
I was going to converse with her while still doing my task when i noticed that she was crying; her eyes were full of tears! I asked for the reason for this outbursts, but didn't get any response. I sat down with her and inquired if she were homesick or lonely or anything that might give me a clue on why she was crying. Her answer was dubious. She said that she was malungkot. This belied her interaction with Roney who swears that the girl was excited during the short trip from the terminal to our home. The sudden mood change made me worry.
We had to go to work, so we left the girl with my in-laws who speak the same dialect. We were thinking that they might assuage her fears and loneliness. After all, it was her first day. We told her that she should rest and start doing the chores the day after. Whatever it is, at least we have a helper now. Hallelujah!
We were excited to come home after work. Roney and I were discussing on how we would not wash the clothes and press them anymore, how we would not sweep the floors before going to work and before going to bed, how we would be able to concentrate on taking care of Jadon on weekends, we do not have to cook food and wash the dishes when we come home, blah, blah, blah. By the way, the earliest that we could be home is 8:45pm. But sometimes, we leave our work at 11:30pm to 12mn, depending on how late my boss calls it a day.
Anyway, when we reached our house at 9pm (which is early in our standard), Roney was confident to honk the car so that our gate would be opened. (When we did not have a helper, I would get out of the car and open the gate so we would not bother my in-laws.) Imagine our surprise when it was FIL who opened the gate. Our new helper was in her room. We did not even see a glimpse of her shadow! We went to our room where MIL would take Jadon to sleep.
We found out that the helper decided to go home the day after or tomorrow, which is today! MIL was so frustrated because as sweet and nice and good MIL was, she didn't know why the girl was crying! She literally did not do anything in the house but cry all day. The girl even told MIL that she wanted to jump over the terrace! WTF??!!!!!! MIL thought that it would be better for her to leave than stay. FIL would buy her ticket and drop her off at the terminal. But, they lectured her about the severity of the situation, on how we trusted her to make good our arrangement and how it was not easy to shell out money expended for her. What ticked me off more was that she did not even inform us that she was leaving!
So what we had in our home was an all-expenses-paid guest.
